“You Must Wander”

The cracks are showing through the walls
amidst your formal dining hall
A fate of choices, so you say,
a child who still thinks it’s a game
Your wandering is overdue
and it’s time
To set your feet down on the ground,
in the desert now.
Tablets broken,
Calfs so golden they smash rock
Heart beholden on a place
Far away from here
But you must wander now, my dear
Your place will never be the same
New shapes of meaning take on your name
A force beholding every storm
You’ll ride the ridges till reborn
But your wandering is overdue
and it’s time
you set your feet down on the ground
in the desert now.
Tablets broken
Calfs so golden they smash rock
Heart beholden on a place
Far away from here
But you must wander now, my dear
You must wander now, my dear

Beautiful… love your use of repetition, and the biblical imagery is on-point.
