And The Children Keep On Dancing

Now comes the part
where the summer sun shines
and all I can do
is miss you.

I’m tired of that life.

I’m tired of playing victim
to my own circumstances.

I’m tired of giving benefits of doubt
where none deserve to be given,
on manipulative scheming
hiding and lying
in darkness.

How much will be enough?

The world itself,
and everything in it
a woman cooly replies,
will never be enough.

Little girl gone.

And so the band keeps on playing
and the dancers keep on dancing
and the children keep on crying
for the inevitable harrowing of hell.
